ProxiPointBot
ProxiPointBot is ProxiPoint’s web crawler. It reads public event listings so people can find local events on a map, with a link back to the source.
What it collects
- Only event facts: name, date and time, venue and address, price, and the event’s link.
- It prefers structured data the site already publishes for this purpose: schema.org event markup, iCalendar feeds, and The Events Calendar’s public feed.
- It doesn’t collect personal information, log in, fill in forms, or copy articles, photos or descriptions to republish.
How it behaves
- It identifies itself honestly, as
ProxiPointBot/1.0 (+https://proxipoint.app/bot-info), and never pretends to be a browser. - It obeys robots.txt, including
Crawl-delay, and treats a blocked site as off limits. - It visits a few times a day at most (city-wide calendars once a day, early morning US Eastern time), one request at a time per site, about 2.5 seconds apart, and backs off when a site is slow, returns errors, or asks it to wait.
- It uses conditional requests, so unchanged pages cost you almost nothing.
How to stop it
Add this to your robots.txt. It takes effect on its next visit:
User-agent: ProxiPointBot
Disallow: /Or email bot@callsignsolutions.com and we’ll stop crawling your site and remove its events.
